It's a bit early for the foothills, but you can still plant lettuces, broccoli and cool season veggies and have a chance to harvest before the summer heat kicks in. Many herbs for cooking, such as oregano, savory, marjoram, thyme, chives, and onion sets are good to plant now. For color while it's cold, pansies and snaps are good starts. Hold off till early May to get you summer veggies and color in the ground unless you have a greenhouse to protect these plants from frost.
Now we are talking. Beautiful spring flowers, great summer shade, and something to eat come harvest. Large trees available that can be fruit bearing this year!
Berries, guava, grapes and many other perennials are also available.
